Premium Chilean Sphagnum Moss

Hand-harvested by Chilean families, wind-dried in Patagonia, carefully imported from Paris.

Family Harvested 100% Natural Renewable & Sustainable Premium Quality

In the peatlands of southern Chile, harvesting families have passed down a unique expertise for generations. Their moss — Sphagnum magellanicum — is a natural treasure capable of absorbing 20 times its weight in water. We select it, import it and distribute it in France with an absolute commitment to quality and ethics.

Our Story

A human chain from Chile to France, built on trust, respect for nature and the pursuit of excellence.

It all begins in the turberas — the vast, pristine peatlands of southern Chile, between Puerto Montt and Tierra del Fuego. In these landscapes where land and water merge, harvesting families have been carrying on the delicate art of gathering Sphagnum magellanicum for generations.

This ancestral know-how is passed from parent to child. Each harvester knows their peatland like their own home: where to pick, how much to leave, how to preserve the ecosystem so the moss grows back naturally. Their livelihood depends on the sustainability of this resource — which is why they are its first guardians.

Our Chilean partner, with over 20 years of experience exporting sphagnum, works closely with these rural communities. Every batch is inspected, sorted and carefully packed before being shipped by sea to Paris, where L'Or Vert handles distribution across the French and European markets.

Sphagnum magellanicum

The Turberas — An Ecological Treasure

Chile's sphagnum peatlands are among the most precious ecosystems on the planet: freshwater reservoirs, carbon sinks and biodiversity refuges.

Hydrological Reservoirs

Turberas act as immense natural sponges, regulating the water cycle and protecting the watersheds of Chile's austral regions.

Carbon Sinks

Sphagnum peatlands store more carbon per hectare than tropical forests. Preserving these ecosystems is a direct contribution to fighting climate change.

Unique Biodiversity

These wetlands harbour endemic fauna and flora: migratory birds, amphibians, rare mosses and carnivorous plants found nowhere else on Earth.

Turbera - Patagonia
Origin: Sphagnum magellanicum is a circum-sub-Antarctic species, originally from New Zealand, which naturally colonised the peatlands of Patagonia thousands of years ago via wind and ocean currents.

Our Ethical Commitment

The quality of our sphagnum only makes sense if it respects the people who harvest it and the land that grows it.

  • Family Producers

We work exclusively with harvesting families from southern Chile, heirs to a know-how passed down for generations. Rural communities whose development we actively support.

  • Responsible Trade

Fair and lasting commercial relationships built on transparency and mutual respect. Every link in the chain is justly compensated.

  • Sustainable Hand Harvesting

Extraction exclusively by hand or with forks. At least 5 cm of living moss is left in place, and 30% of each area remains untouched to guarantee natural regeneration.

  • Decree No. 25 Compliant

All our sphagnum comes from plots with a registered harvest plan filed with SAG (Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero), in compliance with Chilean law.

  • Zero Additives, Zero Chemicals

Our sphagnum is 100% natural. No additives, no chemical treatment at any stage of the process. The product you receive is just as nature made it.

  • Peatland Preservation

We are committed to never compromising the life of the ecosystem. Responsible harvesting means the peatland continues to live, store carbon and shelter biodiversity.
